  Drug & Alcohol Screening

Drug and Alcohol use among workers continues to be a concern for many American companies.  TCOM can assist you in maintaining a drug and alcohol free work place with our screening services.  Pre-placement, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, follow up and return to duty testing are walk in services.  No appointments are necessary.

Available services include regulated and non-regulated urine drug screening.  Non-regulated screening is available in two forms – instant and one day turn around.  Instant testing is not available for DOT regulated collections.  One-day turn around testing mimics a DOT collection and verification procedure except that a split specimen is not collected.  All non-negative results are reviewed by our Certified Medical Review Officer.

Why drug and alcohol screen?

Frankly, most people are shocked by the numbers of regular drug and alcohol abusers who continue to work “productively.” The fact of the matter is, that most substance abusers are employed. If you are employing them, you will bear the cost of their increased absenteeism, worker compensation costs, workplace theft, and decreased productivity.

To limit those costs, implementing a drug and alcohol free workplace program promotes good safety, and good economics.  A comprehensive drug and alcohol program tests workers at hire, and after workplace injuries and near miss accidents.  Don’t limit your testing to drugs – alcohol is much more commonly abused than the typical “NIDA 5” drugs.

What drugs can you test for?

TCOM’s most popular panel is the “NIDA 5” : marijuana, cocaine, morphine and codeine, amphetamines, and PCP.  Panels of 8 or 10 drugs can also be chosen, but tend to have more false positives (people who have legitimate prescriptions for medical reasons).  Specific drugs can also be assessed on a case-by-case basis as needed.

We use trained collectors and certified breath alcohol technicians

In compliance with DOT regulations, our collectors and breath alcohol technicians have been trained and certified.  Our collection facilities comply with applicable regulations.

Immediate Results Available

Immediate test results are available for non-regulated testing.  Employers are provided with a negative or non-negative result within 10 minutes.  If the result is non-negative, the specimen is sent to our laboratory for confirmation testing.  In order to ensure the integrity of results, the collection and MRO review process are the same as for routine urine drug collections.

MRO Services

All drug and alcohol services are coordinated by a certified MRO.  Our MRO service staff handles routine negative results, and phone reports are available within 24 hours of collection.   MRO services include quarterly reporting of regulated testing.

Random Pool Selection

TCOM maintains a consortium for DOT drug and alcohol random selections.  Participation is simple and inexpensive.   Selections are performed quarterly and in compliance with applicable federal regulations.  Companies interested in non-regulated random drug and alcohol screening may participate in a separate pool that is maintained for that purpose.

Hair Collection

Although TCOM does not recommend the use of hair sampling, we do serve as a collection facility for those programs that require hair sampling.  These tests are processed and reported out by contracted providers.
