The
Department of Transportation requires commercial motor vehicle
operators to have a medical clearance evaluation. Too often, these
exams are performed by physicians, or non-physicians who have no
training in occupational medicine. In order to make an accurate
assessment and risk evaluation of an individual to operate these
vehicles, the physician needs an understanding of the work conditions
and responsibilities of commercial vehicle operators, and more
specifically, the many regulations and guidelines that are issued
regarding their medical evaluation. Without fail, every year, tragic
motor vehicle fatalities occur when drivers who do not meet the
criteria are put behind the wheel.
At
TCOM, all DOT examinations are performed by Board Certified physicians
with expertise in Occupational Medicine. TCOM adheres strictly the
published medical guidelines and consensus reports. We do not pass
drivers who have disqualifying conditions, regardless of whether past
examiners have done so. This is for the safety of the driver, the
employer, and the public. DOT examinations are available on a walk in
basis. No appointment is necessary.
